The Annual International Scholars Retreat
When you come into The University of British Columbia as a recipient of an International Leader of Tomorrow Award or the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, you are entering a large community of International Scholars. The annual retreat is a great way for scholars to interact with other members of the community, start to discover the brilliant minds of their fellow students, and to see just how strong a support system is in place for them. The retreat takes place at the end of September of every year. International scholars across faculties and years come together for a weekend break away from hustle and bustle of UBC. It is a time to get to know new and old faces in the community and to kick off the new years with great ideas.
Activities, fun, and inspiration
Throughout the weekend there are an array of activities ranging from reflection workshops, brainstorming about different initiatives scholars might have, outdoor activities, and much more. Many of the workshops allow scholars to gain trust in each other and learn to act as a team. It enables them to realize all the resources and diversity that is present in the group, and provides an easy access to those key persons when they are needed. It is also a great opportunity to get inspired, and inspire others since everyone brings something entirely unique to the retreat and that is what makes it unforgettable. The retreat will allow you to face different challenging situations alongside UBC staff, scholars, and peers, allowing you to grow and have an open mindset for the upcoming year.
